VSCA Tournament Information & Events Schedule
General Information for All VSCA Events
Registration
- Advance Registration is required for full participation in all rounds of the tournament.
- Walk-in registrants will only be paired for rounds 2 through 5.
- Registration closes at 9:00 pm on the Wednesday preceding the tournament.

Sections
- High (K–12); Middle (K–8); Elementary (K–5); Primary (K–3) (unless otherwise specified below).
- May combine High / Middle and / or split Elementary / Primary.
- Trophies to top 3 teams & top 5 individuals in each section.
Schedule
- Check-in and walk-in registration ends at 9:00 am.
- If you need a bye for the first round, please indicate this in your advance registration.
- Roll call at 9:15.
- Round 1 begins at 9:30 or ASAP.
- Rounds 2~5 begin ASAP after completion of previous round.
Requirements
- VSCA Scholastic tournaments are open to all school students. USCF membership is required to participate in a VSCA tournament.
- Current USCF members should bring USCF membership card or magazine label from School Mates or Chess Life.
- Renewing USCF members please use this link: Renew USCF Membership which will provide a confirmation of membership which should be printed and brought to the tournament.
- New USCF members use the USCF’s online membership application form which will provide a confirmation of membership which should be printed and brought to the tournament. If you are a USCF member but have never participated in a VSCA tournament, you must bring proof of your current USCF member status.
- Note: Applying for USCF membership by mail or phone will not provide immediate proof of membership. Players who renew or join the USCF using phone or mail will have to wait for their membership card to arrive by mail (could take as long as 4 weeks). Entry Fees
- $7 for players who register in advance, $14 for walk-in registrations. Walk-in players play only rounds 2–5 and receive a “zero point bye” for round 1. [More Info]
- Payment of Entry Fees by mail is requested in order to avoid delays in getting the tournament underway.

November 4 | Grange Hall Scholastic I (K–8)

November 18 | Taylor Fox Memorial Chess Tournament

Site: Three Chopt Elementary School, 1600 Skipwith Road, Richmond, VA 23229 (From I-64 West, take exit 183A Glenside Drive South, 0.6 miles then right on Forest Avenue, 0.2 miles then left on Skipwith Rd. From I-64 East, take exit 183 Glenside Drive, turn right on Glenside Dr, 0.6 miles then right on Forest Avenue, 0.2 miles then left on Skipwith Rd).
December 2 | Lakeside Scholastic VII (K–5)

Then Route 33 West to Hilliard Road. Turn right at Shoney’s Restaurant, located in Dumbarton Square, and then right on Cottage Street. Lakeside ES is ¼ mile on left between Cedar Croft and Cottage).

(I-95 to exit 74A Downtown Expwy, VA-195, 3 miles to Powhite Pkwy exit, 3 miles to left exit for Chippenham Pkwy VA-150 South, 3 miles to Hull St Rd exit, US 360 West. School is 0.7 miles on left, between a Waffle House and a fire station).
February 3 | Dinwiddie Scholastic XII

Site: Dinwiddie County High School, 11608 Courthouse Road, Dinwiddie, VA 23841 (From I-95 in Petersburg take I-85 South to Exit #53. Bear right to U.S. 1, then left for 100 yards on US 1. March 10–11 | Virginia Scholastic Championships

Summer Metro Youth Tournaments
July 21 | Richmond Metro Youth (K–8)
5-SS, G/40. Three sections: K–3 (Kindergarten~3rd grade), K–5 (4th~5th grade), K–8 (6th~8th grade). May combine sections when there are fewer than 40 participants. Grade levels correspond to grades in 2006–2007 academic year. Trophies to top 3 in each grade. No team competition. Players from the same school may be paired. Site: Springfield Park Elementary School, 4301 Fort McHenry Parkway Glen Allen, VA 23060 (Nuckols Road South Exit 51B from I-295. Nuckols Road south to Fort McHenry Parkway. Right on Fort McHenry Parkway to Springfield Park ES).
August 18 | Richmond Metro Youth (K–8)
